Finite Element Simulations of Internal Stresses Generated During the Ferroelastic Deformation of NiTi Bodies

چکیده
The aim of this paper is to analyse the generation of internal stresses during the predeformation of NiTi shape memory alloys in the martensitic state. This allows to determine the initial stress state in which the material will transform during the shape memory effect due to heating coilsecutively to this prestrain. In that way a three-dimensional finite element model of the deformation of shape memory alloys has been developed, the constitutive law being defined using an elastohysteresis tensor model. The influence of behavioural and geometrical factors are illustrated considering the numerical simulation of different cases of practical importance for industrial applications : the study of the bending behaviour of a NiTi cantilever beam as well as the study of the swelling of a pipe connection under both uniform and non uniform internal displacement fields.

Finite Element Simulation of Contact Mechanics of Cancer Cells in Manipulation Based on Atomic Force Microscopy
The theory of contact mechanics deals with stresses and deformations which arise when the surfaces of two solid bodies are brought into contact. In elastic deformation contact occurs over a finite area. A regular method for determining the dimensions of this area is Hertz Contact Model. Appearance of atomic force microscope results in introduction of Contact ...
متن کاملFinite Element Modeling of Strain Rate and Grain Size Dependency in Nanocrystalline Materials
Nanocrystalline materials show a higher strain-rate sensitivity in contrast to the conventional coarse-grained materials and a different grain size dependency. To explain these phenomenon, a finite element model is constructed that considers both grain interior and grain boundary deformation of nanocrystalline materials. The model consist of several crystalline cores with different orientations...
متن کاملAppropriate Loading Techniques in Finite Element Analysis of Underground Structures
Stability of underground structures is assessed by comparing rock strength with induced stresses resulted from ground stresses. Rock mass surrounding the opening may fail either by fracture or excessive deformation caused. Accurate calculation of induced stresses is therefore fundamental in the stability analysis of an opening. Although numerical methods, particularly finite element method, are...
متن کاملStudy on new crashworthy buffers in railway
At the collision time, a lot of energy is generated during a short period of time that causes large deformations in bodies. One of the most important parts of wagon in railway is a buffer which may absorb the energy during an impact. It should be mentioned that normal buffers only absorb the energy resulted from a crash elastically. In the present paper, it is tried to use inversion mode of ...
متن کاملPlastic Deformation Characteristics of Continuous Confined Strip Shearing Process Considering the Deformation Homogeneity and Damage Accumulation
In the present investigation, two dimensional elastoplastic finite element analysis was conducted to assess the deformation characteristics of Al 1100 alloy during continuous confined strip shearing (C2S2) process. The results of simulations showed that the plastic strain distribution across the deformed sample is non-uniform irrespective of the amount of friction and C2S2 die angle. The most u...
